We’re Courtney and Sammy, the owners of Basic Az Bakes.

I’m Courtney (aka “Admin Courts”), and like many mums, I’ve had more than a few passion projects since having my children. I was chasing a life where I could be present for school pick ups, set my own schedule, and still build something meaningful. Most of those ideas fizzled out due to time, money, or pure exhaustion (because starting a business is not for the weak). But when Basic Az Bakes grew from an idea into a community, it captured my whole heart. BAB quickly started to feel like another baby.

Sammy felt much the same after having her first child. She wanted to stay home with bubs, but also craved something that was hers outside of being “mum”. With a background in hospitality, she missed feeding the masses, but couldn’t quite figure out how to do that while still being a stay at home mum. When we decided to start Basic Az Bakes together in 2023, she never looked back. Now, as co-owner, Sammy is the baker, the face you see most, and the local delivery girl behind the scenes.

We started Basic Az Bakes with one simple goal: to turn passion into something bigger. We mixed business with gooood food, because what’s better than homemade treats that actually taste homemade? Nothing.

Sammy’s brownies had always been a hit at gatherings (her plates were empty before anyone could blink), so we knew we had something special to share. But what we didn’t expect was how deeply we’d fall in love with what BAB became. It’s grown into more than a baking business, it’s a community built on connection, shared moments, and a whole lot of sweetness.

Our gift boxes are made to celebrate life’s big and small moments, whether it’s a birthday, a thank you, or just a well deserved treat. Giving back is also a big part of who we are. In 2025, we were proud to donate $1,892 to Wellington Children’s Hospital, and looking ahead, we’ve committed to donating 5% of all online orders at the end of 2026 to Epilepsy New Zealand. This cause is close to our hearts and reflects our belief that even small businesses can make meaningful impact when we grow together.

At the end of the day, we’re just two mums who love good food, doing our best to be good people, and making sure that care, intention, and heart shows up in every box we send.
